He was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma, to Orbie Newton and Edna Lou (Bake) Vaughn. He attended school in Shawnee and graduated with the class of 1962. He later received his associates degree in drafting from Oklahoma Tech in Okmulgee. He entered the United States Army, where he served with the 95th Division of the Army Reserves from 1964 to 1969. He married Karen Ann Kelley on Sept. 3, 1965, in Shawnee. They made their home in Shawnee before moving to Tulsa where he worked for the Corps of Engineers as a draftsman. Later the family moved to McAlester. In 1972, he began working as a salesperson for Kelley Motor Company where he continued to work until his death. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He was baptized on June 22, 1970, and later became a member of the Stuart Church of Christ. He enjoyed working his cattle and visiting with people. He was a resident of Stuart and passed away at McAlester Regional Health Center at the age of 61. He was preceded in death by his father, Orbie Vaughn; his mother, Edna Baker Brazeal; grandson, Tanner Kyle Vaughn; stepfather, Orville Brazeal, and father-in-law, E.D. Kelley.
