He was born in Stuart, to Henry D. "Bill" and Myrtle Grace (Elms) Nunn. He graduated from Stuart High School and entered the United States Navy on Aug. 23, 1943, during World War II. He served as a radar operator and instructor and participated in the invasions of Saipan, Tinian and Guam. He was discharged on April 1, 1946, at the rank of RDMC/2 and returned to Stuart. He married Ruth Inez Rohus on Sept. 19, 1946, in Sebastian County, Ark. and had lived in Hughes County all his life. He attended East Central University in Ada, receiving his BA degree in education. He began his career with the United States Postal Service as the postmaster of Stuart Post Office and then was a rural carrier until retirement with 38 years of service. He was also a rancher in the Stuart area during his life and after retirement operated a companion sitter service in Stuart from 1985 until 1990. He was a member of Stuart Church of Christ, the Calvin Masonic Blue Lodge, the McAlester Scottish Rite and the Bedouin Shrine Temple of Muskogee. He was a member and past patron of the Order of Eastern Star, a member of the Rural Letter Carriers Association and also served as a scout master for the Boy Scouts of America. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Grace Nunn, and his wife, Ruth Nunn, on Dec. 12, 1998.
