Phyllis M. Kinard passed away on May 22, 2018, in Anacortes, WA, where she resided since 2014. However, her heart was always in Everett, WA.

As a young bride, she set up a lovely home while her husband, Kenneth, set up his long time Internal Medicine practice. She became involved in her new community and always put forth maximum effort to improve the health and welfare for all of Everett's citizens. She did so by becoming the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Providence Hospital. Additionally, she was the President of the Washington State Medical Association Auxiliary as well as a member of numerous civic organizations. She was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Everett, where she was an Elder and the first woman to serve on the Session of that church.

In addition to her many friends in Everett, she immensely enjoyed the companionship of close friends in Maui that she wintered with over several decades. Her devotion to the community was only overshadowed by her devotion to her beloved family.

She was preceded in death by her devoted and loving husband, Kenneth and her beloved son, Snohomish County Sheriff Sgt. James Kenneth Kinard; her parents, Dorothy and Louis; her sisters, Doris and Delores and brother, Richard.

Surviving Phyllis are her daughter, Kathryn (Thomas) MacArthur and son, Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Jeffrey Louis (Ann) Kinard. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Kyle James Kinard, John Thomas (Erika) MacArthur, Dr. Jeffrey Louis (Emily) Kinard (Major, USAF) and Megan Alexandra (Brad) Halley.

The principles of a devoted work ethic, learned in a loving family in Iowa, carried her through nursing school and an Army deployment with her husband to Japan. Phyllis leaves a legacy of love and devotion to her community, friends and family.
