The heart of our home, Gretta Bingham Petersen, returned to her heavenly home on Sunday, March 16, 2008 after suffering a stroke and complications incident to age. She was the recipient of months of tender loving care by her daughter Mary.

Gretta was born in Amalga, Utah October 9, 1924, the daughter of Percy Y. and Audrey Ashcroft Bingham. She spent her early years on the family farm, attended schools in Cache Valley, was proud to have achieved the honor of representing her school and community as Health Queen and Rodeo Queen. She graduated from North Cache High School and Seminary, and began working for Ed Gossner at the Cache Valley Dairy. She served as an LDS Missionary in the North Central States Mission May 1946 to December 1947. Gretta married Frank S. Petersen on November 22, 1948 in the Logan Temple. They began their married life as business owners on the Continental Divide in Wyoming operating a service station, wrecking service and cafe.

In 1952, they moved to Bountiful, Utah to continue new business pursuits, build a home, and raise a family. Together they are parents of three children. Gretta served faithfully in the LDS church in the Relief Society and MIA organizations on both a ward and stake level; Jr. Sunday School, visiting teacher, and temple worker and volunteer at the Bountiful Temple. She was an active member of the Daughter's of the Utah Pioneers, serving in many positions in her camp and company, proud of her pioneer heritage. Meeting the needs of her family was always a priority. She assisted her husband with their business, Frank's Clothing, for many years providing alteration services. If there was a new dress to be made, a pair of Levi's to be taken in to fit the tall and skinny, a new grandchild needing special attention, whatever the call, she was ready to meet the request. She enjoyed hours spent in her backyard garden, quilting, sewing high school pep club and cheer uniforms, prom dresses, wedding and bridesmaid dresses, and especially altering a suit for the prophet. She loved cooking...the bigger the group the better, making delicious chocolates, trying anything new, making something out of nothing following her motto of "waste not want not". She participated in county and state fairs as both a judge and a participant, winning hundreds of blue ribbons in many categories. Gretta leaves her family with wonderful memories and endless examples of acts of service and kindness to others.

Survived by her children: Mary (Dan) Springer, Farmington; Trudy (Wayne) Smith, South Jordan; Lyle (Christine) Petersen, Bountiful; 12 grandchildren, eight great-grand children. Brothers and sisters, Blanche (Doug) Mitton, Sharon Y. (Renee) Bingham, Ronda Bodily. She is preceded by her parents, husband, Frank S. Petersen, grandson Gavin P. Springer, brothers Charles Ross Bingham and Scott A. Bingham.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, March 21, 2008 at the Bountiful 9th/31st Ward Chapel, 585 East Center Street, Bountiful, Utah. Friends and Family may call Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 N. Main and Friday morning 10-10:45 a.m. at the Church prior to the services.
Graveside services will follow the services at Hyde Park Cemetery, Hyde Park, Utah, at approximately 2:30 p.m.
