"Donald Duane Beck, 73, of Three Oaks, passed away at West Woods of Bridgman on Sunday, May 29, 2016.
Donald was born on Feb. 7, 1943, to Victor and Gertrude (Shearer) Beck in Paw Paw. Don graduated from high school and went on to join the US Navy. After serving in the Navy, Don entered into service as a Michigan State Police trooper with the 57th recruit class Feb. 25, 1965. He was first assigned to the Ithaca post, followed by the New Buffalo post, which later combined with the Benton Harbor post to become the Bridgman post. On June 4, 1988, he married Theresa M. Carlson, and in 1996, he retired from the Michigan State Police.
Don enjoyed coaching and watching his children's athletic events, and attending get-togethers of any kind. He was a great storyteller, who was known for his outgoing personality, his genuine helpfulness, and his unpretentious demeanor as a state trooper. A child at heart, babies were drawn to Don with a big smile and silly nature.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa Beck; children: Kim Wendt, Kelly (Craig) Boersma, Kristin (Mark) Harrington, Brian (Stephanie) Voss, Tim (Ashley) Beck and Andrew (Sharon) Beck; grandchildren: Sasha, Dallas, Kyle, Chase, Carlee, Boden, Cooper, Emma, Landon, Mavis, Ashton and Benjamin; great grandchildren, Braiden and Finley; brother Barry (Cindy) Beck; sister, Brenda (Larry) Shaefer; and special cousins: Doug, Harriet and Tami.
In keeping with Don's caring nature and willingness to help others, he has selflessly donated his organs and cremation has taken place." (The Herald Palladium 03 June 2016)
