Victor (Vic) George Bucher, age 77, died on April 12, 2023, in Reno, Nevada.

Vic was a loving companion, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his longtime companion, Rea Nakanishi, of Davis, California; his daughter Debbie (Eric) Simpson, and his son Chris (Deanna) Bucher, all of Woodland, California; his grandchildren Tyler Simpson, Molly (Kevin) McCreight, Jack Simpson, Joseph Simpson, Amy (JD) Selstad, Ashley Bucher, Brian Bucher, and Ally Bucher; his siblings Jim (Nancy) Bucher of Sonoita, Arizona, Tom (Patty) Bucher of Carson City, Nevada, and Cate (Tom) Loewen of Woodland, California. He is preceded in death by his parents Carl and Pat Bucher of Oroville, California; his brother Don Bucher; and his first wife Jo Bucher.

Vic had a varied and long career in public accounting, teaching, and land development. He earned a BA in accounting specialty from the University of San Francisco and a master's degree in taxation from Golden Gate University.

After serving in the US Army Intelligence Agency in the Pacific during the Viet Nam war, Vic was a tax accountant for KPMG San Francisco and Sacramento. He founded a CPA firm in 1976 and specialized in farm and commodity accounting, forensic accounting, and US income and estate taxes. In 2003, Vic served as a member of the California State Lottery Commission after being appointed by Governor Grey Davis. From 2004-2006, Vic was hired as a forensic accountant by the US Defense Intelligence Agency to work with the Iraq Survey Group in Baghdad, Iraq, and Doha, Qatar. He was adjunct faculty of accounting at Cal State University, Sacramento; Sacramento City College; Woodland Community College; University of Maryland; and, for twelve years, the University of Phoenix Graduate School of Business. Vic also developed many buildings in Yolo County and the surrounding areas before moving to Reno, Nevada where he started his public accounting practice exclusively for estates and trusts and continued his land development ventures.

Vic was a social, active, and generous man who was deeply involved in many charities and clubs. He was a 27-gallon blood donor with the Sacramento Blood Source Foundation. Vic was generous in his involvement with many charities and organizations, including Woodland Christian School, the Yolo County Elderly Nutrition Program, Sacramento Regional Family Justice Center, Yolo Crisis Nursery, and community organizations such as the Davis Sunrise Rotary Club and the Davis Odd Fellows Lodge. While in Reno, Vic continued his involvement in Rotary there and was a board member of the Community Foundation of Northern Nevada.

A celebration of life is scheduled for 1 PM Saturday, May 20, 2023, at the Woodland Christian School Performing Arts Center, 1787 Matmor Road, Woodland, CA, 95776, with a reception to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Vic's life. Interment at the Sacramento Valley Veteran's Cemetery in Dixon will be held on a separate date for the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations to go to the Victor Charitable Fund at the Community Foundation of Northern Nevada, 50 Washington Street, Suite 300, Reno, NV 89503.
