BUCKMASTER, Arley Eugene age 69 of Vandalia, passed away suddenly Monday, December 13, 2004 in Bradenton, Florida. Arley was born April 10, 1935 in Willshire, Ohio, son of the late Walter Buckmaster and Devona Shell. He was a 1953 graduate of Willshire High School, and served in the United States Marine Corp. from 1954- 1957. He then served 11 years with the Ohio State Highway Patrol and then joined the Montgomery County Sheriff's office where he retired in 1988 after a total of 33 years of service. Arley was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, AmVets Post 99, VFW Post #9582, American Legion Post #668 and the Beirut Veterans of America. He also served as the Past International President of the Blue Knights law enforcement motorcycle club. Preceded in death by 1 son, Cpl. John B. Buckmaster, USMC, KIA; his mother and father and his step-father, Harry Shell; Arley is survived by his wife of 48 years, Esther (Kiehn) Buckmaster; 1 daughter, Vicki J. Buckmaster of Dayton; 2 sons, Gary E. Buckmaster of Texas; Gregg A. Buckmaster & wife, Robin of North Carolina; 2 sisters, Margo Shell Broome of Vandalia; and Vickie J. Shell of Celina, Ohio; grandchildren, Nina, Ian, Casey, Hayla and Neikenson of North Carolina and a host of other relatives and friends. Arley leaves behind hundreds of friends and a million memorable times across the U.S. and Canada. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Monday, December 20 at the First Baptist Church of Vandalia, 140 Elva Court., with Chaplain Mike Hild officiating. Burial Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Morton & Whetstone Funeral Home, 139 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia on Sunday afternoon from 2-5 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Sinclair College Foundation for the Cpl. John B. Buckmaster Scholarship for Law Enforcement, 444 W. Third Street, Dayton, Ohio 45402.
