Retha Janelle Benefield of Jay, Oklahoma, passed away on April 15, 2023 at the age of 82. Retha was born in Jay, OK on January 25, 1941, to Clyde and Margaret (Earp) Martino.
Retha graduated from Jay High School in 1959. She went on to open her own hair salon and later worked at Grand Savings Bank and the Delaware County Courthouse. Her son, Rick Phillips, was born sharing her birthday in 1964. She married the love of her life, Joe Benefield, on March 13, 1974. Retha's greatest joy came from being a wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and NanNan.
Retha is predeceased by her husband, Joe Benefield; son, Rick Phillips; parents, Clyde and Margaret Martino; sisters, Jean Thompson and Clydella Martino; brothers, Steve Martino and Stan Martino; step-daughter, Jeanie Humble; and grandson, Michael Mitchell.
Retha is survived by her brother Lonnie Martino and wife Janice; sister-in-law Renée Martino; nephews Doug Thompson and wife Phyllis, Greg Thompson, Darren Martino, Stephen Martino and wife Beth, Justin Martino, and Ryan Martino and wife Jennifer; nieces Jeannie Ash and husband John, Stephanie Hathaway and husband Matthew, and Kristen Snyder and husband John; her aunt Melba Price; step-sons Russell Benefield and wife Lea Ann, and J.D. Benefield; step-daughter Janet Jacobs and husband Gary; and grandchildren Bobbie, Jake, Newly, T.J., Jodi, Zach, Jeremy, Camille and Kayla; 18 great-grandchildren; and beloved great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends.
Pallbearers will be Justin Martino, Phillip Thompson, Blake Leonard, Evan Hathaway, Cooper Frazier and Matthew Hathaway.
