Barbara Ann Axe age 86, of Toledo, Ohio entered the Kingdom of God on May 11, 2023. She was Born on February 17, 1937, to Carl and Mary Birkmeier in Delphos, Ohio.

Barbara was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many. She had a warm and outgoing personality and was never at a loss for words. On one occasion she was noted to have had an hour-long conversation with the wrong number caller. She left a profound impact on all who knew her. She had great passion for her faith, family and travel and especially loved spending her winters in her Florida home.

After graduation from Delphos St. John High School, Barbara entered the St. Rita School of Nursing. She met her future husband Phillip D. Axe while in nursing training at the hospital. They married in June 1959. She was a dedicated nurse and enjoyed working in the Maternity unit due to her love of babies. Barbara received international attention with the birth of identical girl quadruplets in 1963; at the time she had three children ages 1-3 at home. She migrated to surgical nursing after the quadruplets were born, where she would remain for the rest of her nursing career. Never idle, she opened Toddler Tech Child Care Center in 1985. Where she enjoyed holding babies in the infant room. She was extremely proud of her family and Child Care Center.

She is survived by her children, Kathleen Axe, Timothy (Amanda) Axe, Anna Axe, Rita (Jeffery) Haase, Julie Axe, Joseph (Robin) Axe; Grandchildren, Joseph Axe II, Jared (Lexi) Haase, Carrie Axe, Austin Axe, Clayton Axe, Alyssa (John Harris) Axe, Jack Haase, Elle Axe, Lizzie Axe, James Axe, Michael Axe; Great Grandchild, Vera Fern and Brother, John (Char) Birkmeier. She is preceded in death by her husband, Phillip D Axe; Daughter, Susan Axe; Son, Charles Axe; Grandson, Corey Axe; Great -Grandson, Miles Fern and Brother, Don Birkmeier.

Family and friends are invited to visit on Friday, May 19, 2023, from 2:00pm – 8:00pm at Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 W. Sylvania Ave. where the Rosary will begin at 7:00pm. Funeral mass will be held at Christ The King Church on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any memorial contributions be made to Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Toledo, Make a Wish or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
