Funeral services for Emmett I. Asher, 73, will be conducted at 1:30 pm Friday by the San Joaquin Lodge No 19, at Franklin Downs-McHenry Chapel, McHenry and Palm. Burial will be private.

Asher, who died Monday in a Modesto rest home following a lengthy illness, had lived in the area 25 years and been employed by Pacific Telephone for 45 years. He retired in 1969.

A native of Stockton, he was a member of the Masons, the College Avenue Congregational Church, Kiwanis Club of Greater Modesto, Benali Temple of Shrine, Scottish Rite Bodies, Stockton, and was a former member of the Turlock Country Club. He also had worked with the Junior Rifle Club.

Asher is survived by his wife Jessie of Modesto; two daughters, Barbara Townsend of Concord and Patricia Hanson of Castro Valley; a son, Robert Asher of San Diego; a brother, Claude Asher of Stockton; one granddaughter and one great-grandson.
