CWO-3 James G. Welch (ret.), 89, of Panama City passed away Sunday, April 17, 2011 at a local hospital. He is back with the love of his life, wife, Mary Lou Welch, who preceded him in death, as well as a grandson, Mark Scott Booth. James was born in Kenton, OH and raised in Muncie, IN. He served the country in WWII, retiring in Panama City in 1959 after 22 years with many commendations from the USAF. He then retired after 18 years from the USPS as a supervisor. He was also a 50 year Mason, ACME Lodge #222 F & AM, and a Shriner. He loved to golf and was an avid Braves fan and coin collector. Mr. Welch is survived by his daughters, Judy Booth and Marilyn J. Welch; sons, James G. Welch, III (Geneva) and Michael A. Welch (Glenda); grandchildren, David Booth, Jodi Coney, Madeleine Welch, Matthew Welch, Mica Longwell, Lacie Sutek, Jennifer Sutek, Tyler Hartley, Austin Hartley, Geanie Smith, Dede French, and Stephanie Allen; and 12 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 21, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Kent Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Rev. Virgil Tillman officiating.
