"Mrs. Roxanne C. Parker, 85, of Candler, died at 3 a.m. yesterday in a local hospital after a brief illness. She would have been 86 years old September 20. Mrs. Parker made her home with a nephew, Leslie Miller of Candler RFD 1. More familiarly known as "Aunt Roxie" she was widely known in the Candler community. Born in Elizabeth, N.J., she was a daughter of the late T.B. and Mary Eaton Crary and had lived in Buncombe County since she was a child. Mrs. Parker was the widow of the late Thomas F. Parker. She was a member of the Piney Mountain Methodist Church. Surviving in addition to the nephews are two brothers, O.T. Crary of Goodwater, Ala. and T.B. Crary of Brevard, and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. in Piney Mountain Methodist Church and burial will be in the church cemetery. The Rev. T.M. Mason, the Rev. C.M. White, the Rev. H.D. Cohn, the Rev. Wayne Smith, and the Rev. T.A. Grace will officiate. The body will remain at Dunn and Groce Funeral Home until time to be taken to the church to lie in state for the hour preceding service. Active pallbearers, all nephews will be David Crary, Troy Miller, Donald Miller, Franklin Miller, Carl Young, and Marvin Young." -Asheville Citizen-Times, Asheville, N.C. July 19, 1954
