Hersel J. Smith was born in Harvey,Iowa
to James Lockhart Smith and Sarah Irena
Lonis Smith. He moved with his parents
and siblings to Des Moines while he was
a young man where he spent the rest of
his life. He attended East High School.
He met and married his wife
Elsie Mae Gibson in June 16,1928. To
this union was born three children. He
retired from the Iowa Liquor Commission
and was a member of Union Park Christian
Church and the East High School Boosters
Club. His children were graduates of East
High School.

Lola Jane Angell of Rock Creek Lake,IA.;
two sons, Hersel Wayne of Urbandale and
Ronald Lee of Des Moines;
eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
