Funeral services for Alfred "Al" Koehler of Morris, MN will be Friday, May 26, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Morris, with Reverend Donald Main officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, May 25, 2023 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Alfred John Koehler was born on September 28, 1933 in Vesta, Minnesota to Karl and Erna (Valentine) Koehler. Alfred grew up on a farm near Vesta and attended country school through the 8th grade and then completed his next three years at Echo High School. Alfred was baptized on October 16, 1933 and confirmed on May 18, 1947 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Vesta. He moved to Stevens County with his parents in 1950 and helped his Dad on the farm. In 1954, Alfred was drafted into the military and chose the Navy. He attended the Naval Training Center at Great Lakes, Illinois and then he was stationed at the Naval Station Newport in Middletown, Rhode Island. He was trained to operate the big guns aboard the destroyer U.S.S. Caperton 650.

Alfred married Delores Jeanette Christianson on June 7, 1958 at Aeneas Lutheran Church. Alfred and Delores were blessed with three boys: Michael, Brian, and Rodney. He cherished times spent with his 11 grandchildren.

Alfred worked at the West Central Experiment Station as a research plot coordinator. Alfred also spent many years driving cars for Heartland Motor Company. He enjoyed volunteering for different roles at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Morris.

Alfred enjoyed the outdoors including fishing with kids and grandkids as well as tending to his lawns, leaves, and gardening. Alfred also was a sports enthusiast and supported his three boys in their high school sporting events and enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings.

Alfred passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at Stevens Community Medical Center in Morris; he was 89 years old.

He is survived by his wife, Delores, and three sons: Michael (Alethea), Brian (Jana), and Rodney (Kelly). He is also survived by his grandchildren: Dalton, Ethan, Sadie, Ryla, Sienna, Hadley, Macen, Kennlee, Abigail, Mazy, and Brita. Survivors also include nephews, nieces, and other extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents (Karl and Erna), parent-in-laws (Edwin and Selma), and siblings (Ervin and Bertha).

Alfred's family is grateful for the care he received at SCMC.
