On December 16, 1903 he married Marie Blilie at Saint Paul, Minnesota. They left Minnesota immediately after the wedding for Congress, Arizona where they resided until November of 1904 and moved to Los Angeles, California. In February of 1905 their son Blilie was born but within 3 weeks Marie passed away at the age of 33 years. John remarried to Anna Shogren in Nevada and to this union a son Leslie J. Holden was born in 1911. John was in the mining business and was known as "Honest Jack" to many. On December 29, 1915 he passed away at the age of 51 years due to kidney failure in Oakland, California.
He now joins his first wife Marie and their son Blilie Holden who passed away on March 16, 1913 at the age of 8 years.
Survivors are his wife Anna and their son Leslie J. Holden.
