He met his soul mate, Martha Schulte Agee, while serving in the USAF. He would spend many of his leaves hitchhiking back to Michigan to spend the weekend with his fiancé. They were married on September 3, 1955 and were together for 66 years until her passing on October 7, 2021. Together they raised six children on their farm in northern Michigan.

Besides his six children, he had 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He taught his children great work ethics and that hard work and perseverance paid off. He was a man of faith and was a long-time member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Gaylord and later at Holy Redeemer in Vanderbilt, Michigan. He served on the school board at St. Mary's while his children were attending school there.

He worked for many years at Standard Products in Gaylord, then at GenCorp in Wabash Indiana. He was a skilled engineer and developed two automotive patents while employed with GenCorp. He worked hard, retired, and built his dream home on the most beautiful hillside in northern Michigan.

Donald Leaves behind his children: Dave (Pam) of Traverse City Michigan, Daniel (Renee) of Baxter Tennessee, Douglas of Plainfield Illinois, Karen of Gaylord Michigan, and Laura Lanuti of Cookeville, ten grandchildren, seven great grand children; and a brother: Louis Agee of Missouri.
