"Weyauwega Chronicle", Wisconsin, Wednesday, January 20, 1892:
RELIEF COMES AT LAST
I. C. Alden expired Monday evening at 11 o'clock. On the 19th day of November last, while at work in the loft of his barn, he lost his footing and fell to the floor, striking across a pole and dislocating his spinal column. He was carried to the house as soon as help could be obtained. Both physicians of this place were summoned, and an examination showed that his body below the dislocation was completely paralyzed. From the time of his fall till his death he suffered intensely, and during the past few days could speak barely above a whisper, and was entirely helpless. In his terrible condition, death was a welcome messenger.
Isaac C. Alden was born in Maine on 24th day of January, 1824, and after visiting nearly every quarter of the globe as a sailor, came to Weyauwega in 1856, where he has since resided. He was three times married; first to a lady in Maine who lived but a few months; second to Miss Brewer of Weyauwega, a sister of Mrs. L. Consaulus, who died after a few years of wedded life, and the third and last time to Mrs. Holmes, widow of Samuel Holmes, who survives him. By his first wife he had a daughter, still living in the east; by his second wife a son and daughter, of whom the son, John, is living in the state of Washington, the daughter having died a few years ago; by his third wife there were three daughters, Beulah who died in infancy, Mrs. Dr. Morass of Cedarburg, and Miss Margaret Alden now at home. He was a kind and indulgent husband and father, and an honest and upright citizen, much respected by all with whom he had dealings in life. The widow and surviving children have the sympathy of all in their deep affliction.
Funeral services will be had from the Presbyterian church in this place on Thursday at 2 o'clock p.m., and will be conducted by the Masonic lodge of Weyauwega, of which he was a member. Th sermon will be preached by Rev. Angus Mackinnon.
