Obituary
Barbara E. Bahl Blair, age 80, a resident of Hamilton and Fairfield, passed away peacefully on May 23rd, 2023, at Hospice of Hamilton after a brief illness. Barbara was born in Mansfield, Ohio on June 3rd of 1942, the only child of Charles and Genevieve Cairns Bahl. She graduated from Mansfield High School in 1960 and Miami University in 1964. She began teaching 5th grade at Grant Elementary in Mansfield in 1964 where she taught for 3 years. She married Thomas Lowell Blair in 1964 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church. To this union 2 daughters were born, Andrea and Christin Blair. Barbara continued her teaching career at Adam's Elementary in Hamilton, Ohio, eventually retiring with 27 years of service in kindergarten, and 2nd. She was very supportive of her students, often finding her former students when they graduated from high school to give them a card. She continued her support attending their showers, weddings, and 8 funerals of former students. Eventually, she even became Facebook friends with many. A former student who had become an author returned as a visiting presenter to the book club to share his experience after the book club read his latest novel. This reunited them in person after an absence of 44 years and a heartwarming story followed in the Hamilton Journal News. She also created lifelong bonds with Adam's staff and continued meeting with them up until her death. Treasured friendships are in this group.

Barbara was an avid believer in remembering everyone's special occasion with a card. This kindness was remembered with the many cards sent to her by Chi members of Delta Kappa Gamma after her illness was shared with them. She was a member for 29 years, served as the secretary for 2 years, was one of the founding members of their book club, and served on the scholarship and Shared Harvest committees. She worked part-time at Hallmark after her retirement from teaching and continued regular dinner dates with co-workers. She lived to observe her milestone 80th birthday which included many special celebrations. Barbara was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she regularly attended.

Mrs. Blair had moved from Hamilton to Village Green of Fairfield for the final 5 years of her life. Barbara's greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren. Left to mourn her passing are daughters Andrea Blair Batt (Tony) and Christin Blair; cherished grandchildren Lauren Batt, Thomas Batt, and Caroline Batt. She will be reunited in death with her husband Thomas Lowell Blair who predeceased her in 1997. Barbara also leaves many special friends and relatives. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Thursday, June 1, 2023, in the Zettler Funeral Home, 2646 Pleasant Ave. followed by burial in Rose Hill Burial Park. Friends may call on the family from 11:00 am-12 noon Thursday in the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to share Harvest or Hospice of Hamilton.
