Bartholomew Yeager was born in October 1807 in Lincoln County, Tenn. and died after June 1880 in Montgomery County, MS. He enlisted in the Confederate States Army in Vaiden, Miss. at the age of 54, though his discharge paper says he was 52, as follows: Certificate of Disability for Discharge reads: "Bartholomew M. Yager, of Captain Saml E. Bain's Company, the Vaiden Artillery of Confederate States was enlisted by Capt Joseph Lovell at Vaiden Mississippi on the 18th day of January 1862, to serve the war; he was born in Lincoln Cty in the State of Tennessee, is Fifty Two years of age, Five feet, 8 inches high, Dark complexion, Blue eyes, Black hair, and by occupation when enlisted a Blacksmith. During the last two months said soldier has been unfit for duty 60 days. Station: Columbus Miss., Date: Aug 8th 1862, S.C. Bain, Commanding Company. "I certify that I have carefully examined the said Bartholomew M. Yager of Captain Samuel C. Bains Company, and find him incapable of performing the duties of a soldier because of old age, chronic rheumatism and loss of vision, which permanently unfits him for military duty. I therefore recommend his discharge. Lansford D. Yandell Jr. Surgeon. Discharged this the 9 day of Aug., 1862."
