LANETTA BEATRICE MCBROWNE
Resident of San Mateo, born March 21, 1930, died Aug. 30, 2017.
Mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and a devoted member of
St. James A.M.E. Zion Church. She was born in Tyler, Texas, then moved to Denver in 1948. She loved jazz, collected the music and knew many of the jazz legends. In 1962, after moving to California, she earned her GED and continued her education at San Mateo Community College. She was a compassionate nurse's aide at Peninsula and Mills Hospital. She was also an active member of the "Circle of Concern"
(a multicultural group that addressed sensitive issues in San Mateo). Lanetta is survived by her children Patricia Henderson (Reverend Michael), Jimmy Scott (Bennette), Toki Banjoko (Marjorie), Clyde Lamont and Paul Pickett. She is also survived by her brother Danny Dean of Greenbelt, Maryland and her sister Ella Faye Luckett of Denver.
Quiet hour will be 6 p.m.-8 p.m. September 7, at Sneider & Sullivan & O'Connell's Funeral Home, San Mateo. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 8, at
St. James AME Zion Church in San Mateo. Interment at Skylawn Memorial Park.
