Died, at the Springfield hospital, at 2:30 o'clock Thursday morning, July 5, 1900, from the effects of injuries sustained by the explosion of some powder July 4, Edna Bowring, aged 9 years. This was the most heart-rending of all the accidents resulting from the celebration of Independence day and it has cast a gloom over an entire household. The deceased was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Bowring, of East Reservoir street in this city.

The accident which resulted in the little one's death occurred about 7:30 o'clock in the morning of July 4, at the residence of her parents. The little girl in company with her two small brothers and sister were shooting fire crackers on the front porch. She was holding a bottle of powder and in some unknown manner fire was communicated to it and it exploded. No one knows exactly how the accident occurred as she was sitting on one corner of the porch with her back to the other children. There was about four ounces of powder in the bottle, and it was being used by her brothers in firing a toy cannon. The child was frightfully injured by the explosion.... She was carried into the house and Dr. was summoned. Upon his arrival the child was in a critical condition and he directed that she be removed to the Springfield hospital. She gradually grew weaker and finally at 2:30 o'clock yesterday morning, expired.

The parents of the child are fairly distracted with grief over the sad event. Besides her parents she is survived by two brothers, George and Allen, and by one sister, Alberta. The funeral services will be held at the residence this morning. The remains will be interred in Oak Ridge cemetery.
