He was killed when the twin engine bomber stalled and crashed on takeoff from Selman Field, Monroe, Louisiana. The accident claimed the lives of five and seriously injured a sixth crewmember. They were returning to their base at Barksdale Field, Louisiana.
The four other fatalities were:
