SYRACUSE, IN. -- Shirley A. Beard, 83, of Syracuse died Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at Goshen Hospital. She was born November 3, 1936 in Wolf Lake to Roy W. Starkey and A. Loena (Egolf Winebrenner) Starkey.

Survivors include daughters, Sandra (Terry) Smith of Middlebury and Tina (Shane, Sr.) Jackson of Shipshewana; sons, Harry Beard, Jr. of Chiefland, Florida, Daniel (Carol) Beard of Syracuse and Scott (Frances "Cricket") Beard of Elkhart; 31 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Sharon Fear and Lois Starkey, both of Wolf Lake, Melba Morehouse and June Treble, both of Albion, and Lana Frick of Merriam; and brothers, John L. Starkey and Russell A. Starkey, both of Wolf Lake.

Along with her parents and former husband, Harry Beard, Sr., she was preceded in death by sons, Gary, Kenneth and William Beard; a daughter, Deborah Rucker; a granddaughter, Shelby Jackson (FAG - 80197029); grandsons, Jason Smith and Israel Beard; and brothers, David L. and Roy A. Starkey.

A long-time area resident, Shirley was a homemaker and member of Faith United Methodist Church, Goshen.

According to her wishes, cremation will take place.

Memorial gifts may be directed to Ronald McDonald House or Riley Children's Hospital.
