A NEW TYPE of building flurry, born of necessity and high building costs, is being observed in several of the suburban communities around Buffalo. An increasing number of houses are being erected by owners without the aid of a general contractor. Town building officials and supply houses report that more families are putting up houses by themselves than ever before. ...
Out in Lein Rd , in Ebenezer, Lewis Shea and his wife are laying concrete blocks for a ranchstyle house Mr. Shea is a radio technician for WGR. The Shea family lives in the Ti-O-Run-Da Housing Development. "1 expect to put the house up for about $9000, saving myself a few thousand dollars," said Mr. Shea. "It's going to be rugged but we'll make out O. K. I hope to have it nearly completed by next Spring."
Mr. Shea's house will be a three-bedroom dwelling. He bought the plans for the house from an Illinois company but revised them. He is buying materials as he goes along.
