Winnie Castleberry Barnes

As her favorite passage from the 23rd Psalm was recited and surrounded by her family, Winnie B. Barnes of Sherman, Texas peacefully joined her loved ones in Heaven on Tuesday, March 15, 2005. As a lifelong resident of Sherman, Texas Winnie Bearl Hix Castleberry Barnes was the daughter of the Late Cassie and Carrie Hix and was born on November 3, 1913.

Services will be conducted by Waldo Funeral Home on Friday, March 18, 2005. The service will be at 2 p.m., at Chapel on the Hill, Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman, Texas. The Reverend Danny Wood will officiate.

In addition to her love and dedication to family, Winnie pursued various ventures throughout the Sherman community, including jobs at the Cotton Seed Oil Mill, as a saleswoman for Eleanor's Dress Shop, and as a buyer for Gibson's Discount Center. She was a lifetime member of the Carpenters Chapter No. 183, Order of the Eastern Star, Sherman, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donas W. Castleberry, who passed in 1973, husband Manny (Tuffy) Barnes, who passed in 1986, her daughter Barbara Stringfellow, brothers Robert Hix and Arvle Hix; sister Maurine McMurry and grandson Mark Stringfellow.

Survivors blessed by her love are sister, Ollie Arundale of Phoenix, Arizona, granddaughter Kelly Mercy of Denison, Texas, grandson Robin Stringfellow of Dallas, Texas, and extended granddaughters Betty Tarver and Mary Keeton of Denison, Texas. Five great-grandchildren; Kimberly Propst and Kristi Shelton of South Carolina, Mark J. Stringfellow of Lewisville, Texas, Steven and Ryan Stringfellow of Allen, Texas, nieces Shari Anderson of Houston, Texas, Jana Wright of Austin, Texas and Patsy Munson of Georgetown, nephews Raymond McMurry of Lawton, Oklahoma and Arvle Hix of Heath, Texas. Her love also touched four great-great-grandchildren and several great-nieces and nephews.

Winnie cherished her friends, caregivers, and her Sunday School Esther Class from West Sherman Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the West Sherman Baptist Church, 1830 West Washington, Sherman, Texas 75092, or the Texas Partnership for End-of-Life Care, 3710 Cedar Street, Box 22, Austin, Texas 78705, www.txtec.org.

In Winnie's memory, the family encourages friends and family to enjoy quality time with older loved ones.
