L.Wayne Pierce, 81, of Shelbyville, passed away on Sunday, May 28, 2023 at his home.

Born on September 29, 1941 in Metcalfe County, Kentucky, Wayne was the son of Lonnie Q. and Nina W. Perdue Pierce. He married Barbara Jean Froedge on May 31, 1963.

Before retirement, Wayne was employed at Cummins as a factory worker.

He was a member of Freedom Missionary Baptist Church in Letts.

The Kentucky Wildcats were Wayne's hobby. In earlier years, he enjoyed all types of hunting, coaching baseball, and he loved horses, especially the Tennessee Walking Horse.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Barbara of Shelbyville; children, Julie Pierce of Greensburg, Jamey(Kim)Pierce of Flat Rock, Janie(Robert)Kessler of Flat Rock, Jeremy (Darla)Pierce of Flat Rock, and Jennifer(Ronnie)Smith of Greensburg; grandchildren, Nathan, Rachel, Aleisha and Kristin, Amber, and Andrew, April and Wes, Alicia "A.J." and Verley, Tyler, Andrew, Jeremy "J.W." and Kirsten, Jacob and Lexi, Brianna and Ricky, Joel and Miranda, and Disaree; 22 great-grandchildren; and sister, Judy(C.L.)Saltsman of Columbus.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Joy Pierce; grandson, Andrew Lazzell; two brothers; and one sister.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 1 at 2 p.m. at Norman Funeral Home with Reverend Philip Knight officiating.

Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until time of service.

Burial will be in Norristown Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana at 2626 17th Street Columbus, IN 47201.
