Donnie entered this life on February 2, 1965 in Branson, Missouri, the eldest son born to Stephen D. and Sandra L. (Tolliver) Barnes. He moved with his family to Bentonville, Arkansas when he was nine months old. He graduated from Bentonville High School in the class of 1983. On January 21, 1989 he was united in marriage to Shirley Marie Hamilton and together they shared the last nineteen years. At age 23 he became the youngest driver that JB Hunt had ever employed. At the age of 26, Donnie was diagnosed with a heart defect that prevented him from continuing his life on the road. He later took a position with Stone Container in Rogers. He loved NASCAR and restoring old vehicles, especially the Volkswagen Beatle.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Donald and Mamie Barnes; and maternal grandfather, Chester Tolliver.
Donnie is survived by his wife, Shirley Barnes of the home; a son, Donald Drew Barnes of Bentonville, Arkansas; his parents, Stephen and Sandra Barnes of Bentonville, Arkansas; three brothers, David Barnes of Bentonville, Arkansas, Stephen Lee Barnes of Calico Rock, Arkansas and Sean Barnes of Lowell, Arkansas; maternal grandmother, Mary Tolliver of Bentonville, Arkansas; as well as a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services for Donald Jim Barnes are 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at The Christian Center in Bentonville, Arkansas with Pastor Paul Plumier officiating. Burial will follow in the Pineville Cemetery in Pineville, Missouri. The family will receive friends on Tuesday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service in the church.
