Shirley M. (Bankes) Ackley, 78, of Railroad Street, Bloomsburg, died at 6:35 a.m. Thursday, June 1, 2023, at the Glenbrook Rehab and Nursing Center in Berwick, where she had been a patient.
Born in Bloomsburg on Nov. 11, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (Hontz) Bankes.
She was a lifelong resident of the Bloomsburg area and a 1962 graduate of Bloomsburg High School.
Shirley was employed by the Catawissa VFW Post for 30 years as club manager and bartender.
She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, Bloomsburg. She enjoyed reading, crocheting and gardening.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands: Raymond C. Cook on Feb. 22, 1996, and Wilbur B. Ackley, on Dec. 23, 2014.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 5, 2023, at 11 a.m. in the Dean W. Kriner Inc. Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg, with her pastor, the Rev. John A. Mohan, officiating. Interment will be made in Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge. Viewing is from 10-11 a.m.
