Dr. Donald J. Palenshus, 63, of 3900 Stetzer Road, Bucyrus, died unexpectedly, Sunday, March 12, 2006 at home.
Born Feb. 9, 1943 in Detroit, he was the son of the late Otto Arnold Palenshus and Millie B. Palenshus who survives in Bucyrus. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Carol L. Wheaton Palenshus, whom he married on September 7, 1969.
He was a Captain in the U. S. Army from 1969 to 1971. He attended Capital University and graduated from Ohio State University in 1965 and from Ohio State University School of Dentistry in 1969.
He practiced dentistry for 34 years in Crestline and Galion. He was a member and past president of Crestline Kiwanis Club; past president and treasurer of the Ohio Dental Association 1990 to 1992; member of the Academy of General Dentistry; he served in the Ohio Dental Association as a house delegate and alternate delegate for many years; served as treasurer of the Ohio Academy of General Dentistry in 2001, 2002 and 2003 serving on the board of directors for many years; member of The Ohio State University Alumni Association and member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Crestline where he was a past president of the church congregation. Don and his wife started the Crestline Swim Team in 1974.
Surviving are his one daughter and son-in-law, Tracey S. Palenshus and Anders Isaksson of Stockholm, Sweden; one son and daughter-in-law, Dirk S. and Jessica Palenshus of Bucyrus; one grandson, Sebastian Isaksson of Stockholm, Sweden; his mother, Millie B. Palenshus; his twin brother and sister-in-law, Ron and Roxanne Palenshus; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Rhonda Palenshus, all of Bucyrus; one sister and brother-in-law, Deborah and Willard Stamper of Newark and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 16, 2006 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 410 N. Thoman St., Crestline, with Rev. Jack K. Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Bucyrus.
