Little Lee darted out into the street to join a small playmate. He ran directly into the path of a neighbor's car. He died a day later of head injuries. The driver was beside herself with grief. She was not charged as she had no chance to avoid the accident.
Funeral services were held at Claywell Funeral Home, conducted by the Reverend E.F. Hardin, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church; assisted by the Reverend Fletcher Nelson and the Reverend F.A. Bower. Pallbearers were Frank Abernethy, Otis Pitts, Roy Huffman, and Bennett Hemphill.
Edward Lee was survived by his mother, who grew up at Elida Home, an orphanage. One of the matron of Elida Home came for the services and to be with Mrs. Churchwell.
