Ruby was a daughter of Ontario-born Michael Richard Lanigan and Scots-born Mary Lascelles. She was the second wife of Frederick Charles Thomas III who was the son of Frederick Charles Thomas II, and the owner of Thomas Haulage Limited of Hamilton, Ontario. They had a son together: Frederick Cameron Thomas. They lived in Hamilton Ontario and in Oakville Ontario. She died at the Osgoode Township Care Home near Ottawa. Ontario in her 90th year. She was buried in Millgrove Cemetery.
