TeKeith Jones was sentenced to 72 years for the shooting deaths of his estranged girlfriend, D'Zondria D. Wallace, 30; and her children La'Porsha Wallace, 14; and Ja'Corbie Wallace, 11, in their St. Paul home on Jan. 30, 202I. About one hour before the shooting, an officer was at Wallace's door on Jessie Street doing a welfare check at the request of an out-of-state relative.
"She looked at the officer and said, 'I'm OK. Tell them I'm OK,' " St. Paul police spokesman Mike Ernster said at the time.
A half an hour before Jones entered their home and shot them, another cousin, Moesha Whitehall, said Wallace had texted her asking, "What are you doing?"
Shortly before 3 p.m., Wallace's aunt and uncle stopped by the house to check on them.
When no one answered the door, Harold Johnson pushed it open, saw his great-niece, La'Porsha, and at first thought she was sleeping. Then he heard Ja'Corbie say, "Uncle, help me," Johnson said in an earlier interview. "And then I saw all the blood."
Autopsies revealed that D'Zondria Wallace was shot twice, La'Porsha was shot 10 times and Ja'Corbie was shot five times.
Ja'Corbie was able to tell police it was Jones who had shot them before he succumbed to his injures.
