Harry L. Butcher 1922 ~ 2006 Harry Leroy Butcher, 83, passed away peacefully in Salt Lake City on March 15, 2006. Harry was born on June 27, 1922 in San Francisco, CA to Percy and Alice Hemingway Butcher. He was the eldest of six children. Harry married his sweetheart, Cleo Jamieson, on August 23, 1947. Together they raised two children, Larry and Diane. Harry grew up in Salt Lake City. He served his country valiantly in Europe during World War II, and was awarded the Bronze Star. Harry owned and operated a heating and air conditioning company. He was an inventor and entrepreneur who designed and patented a solar panel heating system that is still in use today. He was widely recognized as a knowledgeable authority in his profession. Harry had a "heart of gold," and was well known for his generosity, compassion and honesty. He was a wonderful father and an extraordinarily fun and doting grandfather. His family was his greatest joy. Harry enjoyed dancing with Cleo and boating, fishing and playing pool with his family and friends. He had a great love for little children and they looked forward to the quarters he always gave them. Harry is survived by his wife, Cleo; children Larry (Terry) Butcher; Diane (Richard) Laxman; brother Gordon (Nancy) Butcher; sisters Vilate (Robert) Chatwin; Betty (Melvin) Robertson; and Wilma (Delwyn) Bowers; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Dorothy Lapham and his grandson Jason Laxman. Family and friends may call 6 to 8 pm Friday, March 17 and 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. Saturday, March 18 at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary (1950 East 10600 South).
