Jody was born on June 26, 1931, in Pulaski, TN, the daughter of the late Josephine Patterson Hickman Smith and Carl Douglas Hickman. After Carl's death in the line of duty with the Tennessee Highway Patrol, her mother married Walter Julian Smith who become her loving stepfather.
Jody was a graduate of Gulf-Park-by-the-Sea in Gulfport, MS, and the University of Alabama where she was a proud member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. Mrs. Selman was a former member of the Coosa Country Club, the Four Seasons Garden Club, and a former President of the Rome Junior Service League of Rome and a founding member of the Chieftains Museum. A cradle Episcopalian, Jody was a communicant of St. Peter's Episcopal Church where she served on the Altar Guild, the Needlepoint Guild and St. Elizabeth's Guild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Henry Selman, Jr., on July 15, 2002.
Survivors include her daughter, and her husband; her son, and his wife; five grandchildren; one great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, and two nieces and one nephew.
A memorial service will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 9, 2023, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Rome, GA. A committal service will follow in St. Peter's Memorial Garden.
The family will receive friends at the Church following the services.
