Tommy always looked up to his brothers Frank and Martin. They were commonly seen at many activities with his first cousins the Arnerich's. Tragedy struck the family when his oldest brother Frank, a US Marine, was killed in action on the assault on the island of Iwo Jima 1945.
Shortly after, the family moved to East Oakland where Tommy met Jean Shrum, his future wife of 65 years. From there he attended Saint Mary's College High School in Berkeley, CA. Tommy excelled in baseball, basketball and football. He was All-League in all three sports which garnered him a scholarship to Saint Mary's College in Moraga, CA. While the draft was enacted Tommy choose to join the US Marine Corp during the Korean War conflict. While serving his enlistment with the US Marine Corp, Tommy married the love of his life, Jean Shrum, on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1953. Tommy and Jean made a home in Oakland, CA, and started their family. They soon welcomed two children Patrick and Diane. Tommy and Jean moved to San Lorenzo, CA, making many memories in their forever home with neighbors that became family over the last 65 years.
He worked as salesman for the Frank Edwards Company selling small engines for 35 years. Tommy enjoyed taking his family down to Los Angeles to visit his brother Marty's family. The highlights of the trips were going with Marty to the recording studios and taking the family to Disneyland. Upon his retirement in 1995, Tommy found new hobbies and interest including restoring his T-Bird, working on his cabin and attending sporting events with his grandchildren Jeffrey, Matthew and Victoria. Tommy remained an avid sports enthusiast, a great American patriot that loved his country and the service men and women in all branches, but his true love was spending time with family and friends.
