Vickie Lynn Hamrick, 72, of Newport, Ore., passed away Sept. 12, 2022, at Samaritan Evergreen Hospice in Albany, Ore.

She was born March 31, 1950, in Spokane, Wash., to Donald and Dorothy (Johnson) Bisson. Their families lived in Kalama, Wash., when Vickie met Darrell Hamrick. They went on their first date when she was 12 and were together until the time of her passing. She attended Kalama High School where she was a cheerleader. Some of her summers were spent working on the local berry farms.

On Sept. 2, 1967, Vickie married Darrell Hamrick in Kalama. On Aug. 28, 2022 Vickie and Darrell renewed their wedding vows in an intimate ceremony in Newport, Ore., with their three children and a few close family and friends present. Darrell survives her. Also surviving are two daughters, Tina Smith (Matt) of Salem, Ore., and Gina Hayner (Russell) of Newport, Ore.; a son, Bret Hamrick of Newport, Ore; three brothers, Monte Bisson (Barb) of Ellensburg, Wash., Greg Bisson of Long Beach, Wash., and Don Bisson of Warrenton, Ore.; seven grandchildren, Karisa McGrane (Sean) and Kalina Thompson (Justin), both of Toledo, Ore., Tyler Holmes (Rina) of Minot Air Force Base, N.D., Kaity Jones of Dickinson, N.D., Kylan Roberts of Army Base Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas, and Jenna Hamrick and Hayes Hamrick, both of Newport; three great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Liam and Malakhi; and numerous nieces and nephews who loved their Aunt Vickie.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Dorothy Bisson; a sister, Diana Dee Bisson; a granddaughter, Karly Jones; and a brother, Jim Bisson.

Vickie was a hard worker. She worked at fish plants on the bayfront in Newport , Ore. She also held numerous babysitting and housekeeping positions, she was a Sunday school teacher and eventually retired from Newport Hospital, where she worked for over 20 years. Vickie was dependable and reliable. Her work ethic was admired by her children and those who had the privilege of working around her.

She enjoyed crafting, crocheting, sewing, cooking, gardening, fishing, travel, and serving as camp host in Arizona, along with Darrell. Vickie was generous beyond measure, sweet, and always smiling. She loved her family and Jesus. She wanted everyone to know Him personally.
