There were several David Shaws born 1750/1775 residing in Central Kentucky by 1800. That has created confusion among some researchers at least one of whom tricked FAG into wrongly combining existing memorials for two of them without any proof. Reseparating the two has proven a chore.

This David Shaw married Nancy Rice, daughter of Fisher Rice, after May 1797 as she is listed as single in Fayette County KY Chancery Records on that date.

The couple had 7 known children as partially enumerated in the 1893 biographical sketch of son Fieldin Lewis Shaw in "Portrait and Biographical Record of LaFayette and Saline Counties Missouri" (1893), Pages 653 and 654

"Mr. [Fieldin] Shaw was born in Nelson County, Ky., in 1811, and was the youngest (sic) in the family, who were as follows: Baker, who lived and died in Kentucky, where he reared a family; Jefferson, who came to Platte County [MO] in 1839, and resided there until 1851, when he moved his family to Oregon, where he lived many years; Sadonia B. [who married Lewis McCowan]; Nancy, who married a Baptist preacher; [Amanda] Anna, wife of Mr. Mills [sic; Jacob Miller]; and Fieldin L.," Not included is the youngest, daughter, Agnes, who married John Middleton in Kentucky.

By 1815 when Agnes was born, David Shaw was fading as indicated by a $300 mortgage on his property recorded 8 August 1815, Barren County KY Deed Book D, page 417 in favor of John Jameson, either the father or brother of David Shaw's son, Baker's, wife Elizabeth. David Shaw listed as ill.

On 20 December 1815 Nancy Rice Shaw patented 10 acres in her own name - Barren County KY Book B - in advance of husband David's insolvency, and on 25 December 1815 David Shaw was listed insolvent in notes of delinquent tax payers - Barren County KY Tax list.

For this memorial it is assumed that David Shaw died sometime in 1816 because on 8 March 1817 his wife, Nancy Rice Shaw married William Redman/Redmond in Barren County KY.

On 22 December 1817 that couple had a child - Nancy B Redmond in Nelson County KY.

On 3 March 1823 - Nancy Rice Shaw Redmond consented to the marriage of Amanda Shaw, daughter by first husband David Shaw to Jacob Miller. Second husband William Redman/Redmond co-signed bond.

It is assumed that Nancy Rice Shaw Redman/Redmond died before 1826 for about 24 April 1826 William Redman/Redmond married for [a third time] to Ann "Nancy" Spalding in Nelson County KY.

The last record for David Shaw is the 18 September 1828 marriage bond of daughter Sadonia Shaw to Lewis McCowan which lists Sadonia's father as "David Shaw - deceased."
