I didn't know the man, but I knew the boy. We were classmates and next door neighbors. I knew Bobby when you didn't lock your doors, you knew all your neighbors and they knew you. When all the Moms watched out for all the neighborhood children and kept us on the straight and narrow. Back when we passed warm summer nights playing 'Mother May I' and 'Red Rover' in our back yards with every kid in the neighborhood, Gary & Terry Hush, Rosemary Christ, Jim & Johnny Rome, Danny Willis, Connie King, Bobby & Kathy and the four of us.
I knew Bobby's Mom, a sweet, gentle lady, his Dad, a grouchy bear, and his little sister, Kathy, a good friend and playmate.
One of my most vivid memories is of a time Bobby's Mom was sick and he was staying with us. The first morning, he was running around the house in his underwear. I had three brothers doing the same but I couldn't believe Bobby would do that in front of me!
Thanks Bern;)
