Roger M. Ajluni, MD, 86, of Bloomfield Hills, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2022.

Born in Ramallah, Palestine, on December 20, 1936, the youngest of six siblings, Roger came to the United States as a student, graduating from Alfred University and SUNY Medical School in New York.

In 1962, while completing his residency in internal medicine in Detroit, he married his loving wife of 60 years, Rosette Gazale, then of Youngstown, Ohio.

In their home of over 50 years in Bloomfield Hills, they raised four children, Maria (Sean) Coyle, Sonia (Tom) Pastore, Roger (Ellen), and Jeffrey. In addition to their children and spouses, Roger and Rosette were blessed with seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Along with Rosette and their immediate family, Roger is also survived by numerous loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.

Roger maintained a successful medical practice in Livonia, Michigan for over 40 years, caring for thousands of patients while affiliated with St. Mary's Hospital. His passion for promoting preventative medicine was ahead of its time.

Roger and Rosette loved to travel and experience different cultures, and together managed to see most corners of the world, often with the children in tow. Roger was a lifelong student of history, politics, and theology, and would enthusiastically converse about them in great depth with any and all. He melded these interests in a novel he authored, Gospel Of A Cab Driver, published in 2009, the themes of which reflected his hope for peace and reconciliation among the peoples of his homeland.

A consummate host, Roger took great joy in presiding over large gatherings on holidays and all occasions, where his toasts and blessings were always erudite, heartfelt, and warm. He equally enjoyed the comforts of building a roaring fire in the fireplace in the winters and barbecuing hot dogs and building kites for the grandchildren to enjoy in the large yard on Wing Lake in the summers.

To honor Roger's belief in the power and importance of education, in lieu of flowers, donations in Roger's memory may be made to the Roger M. Ajluni Annual Scholarship for New American Students, established by his children, by making checks payable to Wayne State University, noting Allocation No. 444249, and mailing to Wayne State University Gift Processing, PO Box 674602, Detroit MI 48267.

A memorial service will be held on January 7, 2023, at 10 a.m. at Christ Church Cranbrook, Bloomfield Hills.

Visitation will take place at A.J. Desmond Funeral Home, 32515 Woodward Avenue, Royal Oak, on January 6, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with prayers at 7 p.m.
