Maureen Margaret Barrett age 56 of Phoenix, Arizona passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2023, after an 8 ½-year battle with stage 4 lung cancer. With her long-time, companion Jim Ruggiero by her side until her last breath.

Born in Lackawanna, New York on June 30, 1966. Maureen was the daughter of Jakub Bieniek and Veronica (Dever) Bieniek. Maureen was the first generation of her family in the United States – her father was from Poland and her mother was from England.

She was raised and educated in Lackawanna. She worked for the Federal Reserve Bank for over 18 years before changing her career to her real calling in life: nursing. She was a very good nurse; she was selfless, giving, kind, and nurturing to all her patients. Maureen always carried herself with grace and kindness. Maureen was an avid sports fan; a diehard loyal fan of her Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabers, and New York Yankees. She also enjoyed her two dogs, Mia and Bella. Maureen had two sons; Steve and Mike and a granddaughter Janessa whom she deeply cherished. She was a very involved mother to her sons. She was a "hockey mom" and even more involved as a grandmother.

Maureen is survived by her long-time companion of 19 years, Jim Ruggiero, her son Mike, her granddaughter Janessa, her siblings, sisters Helen Williams, Elizabeth Price, Deborah Lawrence, and Carolyn Kelly and brothers Albert, Thomas, John and Christopher Bieniek.

Maureen was also blessed with several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and countless friends.

Maureen was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, parents, her son Steve and brothers Bernard and Michael Bieniek.

We would like to give special thanks to Ryan and Joy Reed and the entire staff at Paseo Highlands for their dedication and kindness in the care of Maureen during her fight with cancer.

Maureen's son Mike will be having a celebration of life for Maureen in New York during the summer. Relatives and friends are all respectfully invited to attend when the date is known.
