After graduating from ACU, Jessica was introduced to John Carl Heft by their good friends Jerry and Annette Chapman. Jessica's parents met John at Easter that same year and they liked him. After a short engagement, John and Jessica were married on September 29, 1956, in Longview, TX.
A few years after they were married, John and Jessica moved to Richardson, TX where John began a 34-year career with Texas Instruments. On October 18, 1959, their daughter Ann was born and then on July 29, 1961, their son Scott was born. John and Jessica attended Abrams Road Church of Christ in Richardson, and in 1962 made a big move to Easton, MA where John continued to work for Texas Instruments. For the next seven years, John and Jessica were busy raising kids, serving their small church in Easton, and making lifelong friends in the community. In 1969, the family returned to Richardson and John and Jessica placed membership at Waterview Church of Christ. There John served as an Elder for many years and together they participated in many activities.
Traveling was always something that John and Jessica enjoyed, and they traveled even more when John retired from Texas Instruments in 1992. They traveled all over the US and also several times to Europe. Jessica decided where they would go and John planned it out.
John and Jessica were overjoyed to become grandparents when Ann and Kenny had Melissa in 1983 and Adam the following year. It would be 16 years before the next grandchild, Aaron, was born to Scott and Virga in 2000. Four more grandchildren and two great-grandchildren followed over the next 18 years.
Jessica was a devout Christian who served the church and had strong values and character. Family and friends were very important to her. She also loved gardening, flowers, history, reading, photography, and cats. She was an accomplished national flower show judge and contributed her time and money to many noble causes. John and Jessica had been married for 49 years when John passed away suddenly in November 2005.
Jessica was preceded in death by her husband, John Heft, and her parents Betty and Seymour Waggoner. She is survived by her brother John Waggoner (wife Diann Waggoner), brother Bill Waggoner (wife Dee Waggoner) daughter Ann Heft Dean (husband Ken Dean), son Scott Heft (wife Virga Heft), her grandchildren Melissa Dean Tinsley (husband Trey Tinsley), Adam Dean, Aaron Heft, Mykolas Heft, Andris Heft, Saule Heft and Aris Heft and great-grandchildren Brooks Tinsley and Claire Tinsley, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
