Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class Jacque Joseph Ayd from Baltimore, Maryland lost his life at the age of 24 on May 18, 1967.

Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class Jacque Joseph Ayd was born on November 25, 1942 and had 6 years of service in the U.S. Navy arriving in Vietnam assigned to Headquarters and Services Company, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, 3rd Marine Amphibious Force

On May 18, 1967 in the early morning, Communist forces attacked the 3rd Marine Division headquarters at Dong Ha Combat Base in Quang Tri Province, Republic of Vietnam. Twelve American servicemen were killed and 91 wounded when a barrage of more than 150 140mm rockets slammed into the base. The attack damaged buildings, equipment, and some aircraft. One of the rockets hit in a trench that the Corpsmen were sheltering in killing HM2 Jacque J. Ayd, HM2 Lewis C. Cook, and HM3 Theodore R. Nelson. Other personnel killed included seven Marines and two Army personnel. HM2 Jacque Ayd was the Senior Corpsman of Lima Company 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marines in May of 1967. At the time of his death, Lima Company in Ca Lu was establishing a medical clinic for the local people, which was being built by the Montagnards. When it was completed in June 1967, the medical clinic was named the Ayd Station in honor of HM2 Jacque Ayd.
