John W. Sparks III, 56, died Saturday, March 22, 2008, in Bogata.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, at Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Pete Hollingsworth officiating. Interment will follow at Old Saltillo Cemetery under the direction of Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Michael Osborn, Tony Osborn, Kyle Wilhelm, Kevin Cook, Matthew Wilhelm, Rho Winder, and Doug Bullard.

Mr. Sparks was born on Aug. 25, 1951, in Pickton, the son of John W. Sparks Jr. and Ruby Miller.

He is survived by his children and spouses, John Wesley Sparks IV and Becky, and Penny Darlene Haley and Jayme, all of Mount Vernon; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Irene and Bruce Gulsby of Universal City, Margaret and Frank Cook of Houston, and Linda and Mike Tubesing of Quinlan; granddaughters, Jessica Sparks, Cassie Weatherford, Amber Sparks, C. J. Sparks, Moresa Shelby, and Caitlin Shelby; great-grandson, Kolbe Cook; niece, Stacy Wilhelm; nephews, Tony Osborn, Michael Osborn, Kevin Cook, Robert Cook, Matthew Wilhelm, and Kyle Wilhelm.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy Michelle Sparks; and his parents.
