Alfred Franklin Cavaness, 82, son of Johnnie Thomas Cavaness and Charlcy Bell Helton Cavaness, was born Sept. 8, 1918, at Hazelton at the home of his grandparents, Ben and Bessie Helton. He died June 4, 2001, at Licking.
He grew up on a farm west of Licking in the Pine Grove community. As a young man, he worked in Oklahoma, Kansas and Colorado.
He married Maxine Burnett March 14, 1942, at Flat River. They were married for 59 years and had three daughters.
He was a veteran of World War II. After his discharge from the Army, he returned to Licking. He worked at the fire department at Fort Leonard Wood from 1943 until his retirement in 1972 after 29 years with Civil Service. He was a prominent farmer in the Licking area for many years. His hobbies included working on his farm and restoring antique cars.
Mr. Cavaness was a member of the Bethel Primitive Baptist Church near Flat. He was a board member and supporter of Texas County Missouri Health Care Center at Licking.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Luther Ray Cavaness and Willie Edward Cavaness; and an infant sister, Bessie Mae Cavaness.
Surviving are his wife of Licking; three daughters, Karen Nelson, Carole Ragain and Alta Dixon of Licking; two brothers, Roy Cavaness of Licking and Johnnie Wayne Cavaness of Modesto, Calif.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services were June 6 at the Licking Church of Christ with Wesley Barnett and Larry Tubbs officiating. Burial was in the Licking Cemetery under the direction of Fox Funeral Home of Licking.
