Edwin Parker Daughtrey, Jr.

November 15, 1938 - November 25, 2021

Franklin- Edwin Parker Daughtrey, Jr. passed away unexpectedly Thursday, November 25, 2021 at 1:00 pm.

"Junior" as he was affectionately known by family and close friends was born November 15, 1938 in Franklin to the late Edwin Parker Daughtrey, Sr. and Beulah Hare Daughtrey.

Ed graduated from Franklin High School and attended East Carolina College.

He was a member of Franklin Baptist Church and served as a member of the Finance Committee and as a Deacon.

Ed was comptroller for the City of Franklin. He loved serving the people of his community and he would intervene to assist those in need. After completing over 30 years with the City, he retired and became a part time real estate agent with Coldwell Banker in Franklin.

Ed participated in sports as a young man. Later in life, he had fun playing golf, watching sporting events, boating and traveling with friends.

Above all, Ed cherished and loved his family. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandson. He could be found at the grandchildren's sporting events, plays, dance recitals, and graduations. No place was too far for him to travel for his family. It gave him great joy to teach his grandchildren about gardening, fishing, driving and other outdoor activities on the family farm and in Nags Head.

After losing his wife Brenda in 2018, he and his faithful companion, Kelli, his beloved Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, were known to spend time in town visiting friends.

A compassionate, caring and generous man he lived his life measured by the "Golden Rule" doing unto others.

Ed was predeceased by his wife Brenda Bradshaw Daughtrey, his 3 brothers Tommy, Pete and Raymond Daughtrey as well as his four sisters, Nell Story, Ann O'Brien, Gladys Atkins, and Faye Turner.

Left to honor his loving and compassionate spirit and quick wit are two daughters, Armorel Catherine "Cathy" Goodman and her husband Brad of Oceanside, New York and their two daughters, Lauren Goodman Umlauf, husband Billy and son Lucas of Naples, Florida and Dr. Jena Brooke Goodman of Cambridge, Massachusetts; Lisa D. Brinkley and her husband Troy of Norfolk, Virginia and their four children Alexander and wife Delaney of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Grayson, Meghan and Landon of Norfolk, Virginia; sister –in- law Dot Daughtrey of Carrsville and sister-in-law Cherry Bradshaw Brown and husband Clem of Williamsburg, Virginia as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday the 1st of December in Franklin Baptist Church. The family will receive friends following the service in the Fellowship Hall.
