Glen Preston Brown, 67, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life on Monday, July 3, 2023.

Glen was born in La Porte, Indiana, December 18, 1955, the loving son of the late Ralph H. "Brownie" Brown and Vera Jean Tower Brown of Columbus. Glen was the husband of Sue Ellen Wynn Brown, whom he married May 26, 1979, in Madison, Indiana.

Glen was a member of the first graduating class of Columbus East High School in 1974. While a student at Columbus East, Glen played football, wrestled, and was on the track team. Glen was the first Columbus East recipient of the Judson Erne Mental Attitude Award.

Glen was a 1978 graduate of Hanover College where he received a Bachelor's degree in Business. While at Hanover, he played football, wrestled and was on the track team. In 1977, Glen was an NAIA All-American in football. Glen went on to Ball State University and received his Master's degree in Education in 1982.

Glen was hired in August 1980 by the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation where he taught at Fodrea, Clifty Creek, Southside, and W.D. Richards Schools. Glen finished his teaching career at Columbus Christian School.

Not only did Glen have a passion for education, he also was a longtime coach. At Columbus East, Glen served as the Assistant Athletic Director from 1997-1998 and was the Athletic Director from 1998 to 2005. Glen coached football, boys and girls track, and wrestling from 1980 through 2023. He coached thousands of Columbus students during his career at the junior high, freshman, junior varsity, and varsity levels.

In 2017, Glen was a recipient of the Jack Cramer Award for Ideals of Athletic Competitions. In 2011-2012, he served as the President of Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports and was a past president of Indiana Association of Track and Cross County Coaches. In 1997, he was a member of the South Indiana All Stars Football coaching staff and in 2018-2019, he was a member of Indiana Football Coaches Association All Star staff. Glen was a proud Assistant Coach on the 2013 and 2017 Columbus East state champion football teams and the 2016 state runner-up football team.

Glen was a member of First United Methodist Church and the IHSAA Student Athlete Advisory Board.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife of 44 years, Sue Ellen Brown; his mother, Vera Jean Tower Brown of Columbus; his children, Daniel Brown and his fiancé, Joan Hanson of Indianapolis and Rachel Kimmel and her husband, Konnor of Carmel, Indiana; sister, Anne-Marie Chatham and her husband, Lloyd of Lafayette, Indiana; brothers-in-law, Larry Wynn and his wife, Gale of Madison, Indiana and Mark Wynn and his wife, Melissa of Madison, Indiana; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Glen was preceded in death by his father, Ralph H. Brown, August 9, 2012.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street; the Reverends Howard Boles and Chris Lantz will officiate. A live stream of the funeral service will be available at barkesweaverglick.com. Family and friends may gather for visitation from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Friday and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. Glen will be laid to rest at the Garland Brook Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ralph "Brownie" Brown Memorial Scholarship through the Heritage Fund or the Glen Brown Student Athlete Memorial Scholarship through the Bartholomew Consolidated School Foundation.
