Colleen Faye Larsen Norman passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on February 22, 2019 after a long illness. She was born June 26, 1928 in Mendon, UT to LaVern Alfred and Linzy Jane Shelton Larsen. She was delivered on her grandmother's kitchen table. Her father, seeking better employment opportunities moved the family to Portland, OR where he went to work for Pay-N-Take-It Grocery. She started school in Portland in 1936. Her father was hired by L.S Skaggs Sr. to manage the newly acquired Skaggs Drug Store in Ogden, UT. She continued her schooling in Ogden until the family moved to Salt Lake City in 1941.
Colleen attended Stewart Training School at the U of U and graduated from East High School. She attended the U of U where she met her future husband, Larry Norman. They were married on March 12, 1948 in the Salt Lake Temple. After two years at the University, she worked as a secretary to two Vice Presidents of Walker Bank until her first son was born. After the family was grown, Colleen spent twenty-two happy years as graduate secretary for Dr. Lowell Durham in the U of U Music Dept. Colleen was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where she worked many years in the Primary organization and as a visiting teacher.
Colleen loved to travel, especially to the Pacific Northwest. She was privileged to visit thirty of the United States, as well as all the Canadian Maritime Provinces and British Columbia. Annual family reunions in Oregon were the highlight of her year.
Colleen was a nurturing mother who loved not only her immediate family, but her extended family and many others who thought of her as "Mom."
Colleen is survived by her husband Larry, her children Rick (Pamela), Terry (Deborah), and Michelle (Jim) Cowley, five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, brother Jack (DeeAnn) Larsen, and sister-in-law Pam Larsen. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Stanley and Kent, and sister Carolyn Barnes.
The family would like to thank her team at Signature Healthcare at Home and the entire staff at The Wentworth at Willow Creek for the loving care of our Mother.
Funeral Services will be held at Noon on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at the Rodeo Lane Meeting House, 6350 South Rodeo Lane, Murray, UT. A viewing will precede services from 9:30-11:30 a.m.
