Bernardine Culver Barrow died in her family home on December 23, 2008, just three days before her 91st birthday.

She was a loyal Larchmont community member and will be sorely missed by the many friends she made on the boulevard and at St. Brendan's parish. She was buried with a graveside service in Holy Cross Cemetery on January 6, 2009.

Bernardine graduated from Marlborough School in 1935, then Stanford University in 1939.

She married attorney (University of Southern California Law School 1947), Carl William Barrow on November 2, 1942 at St. Brendan Catholic Church, Windsor Square, Los Angeles, California. They were married for 44 years, until his death in 1986.

They were devoted USC Trojan fans, never missing a game at home or away.

Mrs. Barrow volunteered for many years with The Sisters of Social Service, the Assistance League of Southern California (the Nine O'clock Players), and the Costume Council of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

The Barrows were active members of the California Club, the Beach Club and the Los Angeles Country Club, where Bernardine's father was an early member.

Her grandfather, Christian Johann Kobach, built Los Angeles City Hall.

Bernardine traveled widely as a young girl, which fueled her lifelong interest in history and culture.

She and Carl took annual vacations to Yosemite National Park to hike, ride horses, and entertain their many friends on the historic Ahwahnee Hotel's terrace.

They were frequent visitors to Hawaii.

In spite of all the travels, Bernardine was notably most happy in her house and garden.

She loved flowers, and her home was full of beautiful objects and examples of her outstanding crewel handwork.

Mrs. Barrow was a prominent, but discreet member of Los Angeles society for many years.

She lived life on her own terms, always true to herself.

We will remember her witty, detailed conversations, her devout spiritual beliefs, and generosity to her many lifelong friends.
