1880 32 1848
1900 53 June 1846
1910 58 1852
1920 76 1844
Marriage record: ca. 1848 (Whan collection)
Death certificate (NOT a copy of the original record): 26 Jan 1844 AND 26 May 1844 (calculated)
Death record (Whan collection): 6-26-1844
His parents were married in Aug 1846, ruling out the 1844 date(s). The 1846 date is unlikely as no other evidence points to that date other than one census and he would have been born before his parents were married (altho this is possible). Finally, there is evidence for the 1848 date from multiple censuses (one when he was just 2 years old) as well as the marriage info, which he should have personally provided. One more clue, the children born after him are born in 1851, 1853, 1854, etc. - also supporting the 1848 date.
As for the month of birth, this is a bit less known. It is easy to see that whoever typed the death record could have interpreted the original record as Jan instead of Jun. The calculated birth date is May, close to June. Finally, the 1900 census, also lists June as the birth date.
Again, if you have better evidence for this birth date, please contact me.
