George Calvin Harbaugh was the son of Washington George Harbaugh and Sarah Freeman. He was born in Covington, OH on November 24, 1839, and died in the Veterans Home at Danville, IL. He served in the Civil War, Spl Co D 20th Ill Vol Inf from April 22, 1861-July 16, 1865. He was a member of the GAR and was an Odd Fellow. He was a Justice of the Peace for ten years. He married Anna Elizabeth Benjamin in 1865, four months after mustering out of the army. They had nine children between 1865 and 1881, their last child being Winfield Hancock Harbaugh. His 2nd marriage was to Elmira Campell. (Harbaugh History, page 152)
